If you’re asking yourself that question, don't worry; you haven’t been indoors, staring at your kitchen cupboards for too long: this is actually a thing. Or is it? There’s certainly lots of talk about the at-home benefits that olive oil can provide to your lashes, but some of it seems to require a master’s in chemistry just to understand!
And that’s just not how we roll. We think beauty shouldn’t be complicated - beauty should be blissfully, luxuriously simple. So, we decided to put together a simple overview of the olive oil/lash equation so that you can get all the info you need in just a few minutes, without the accompanying headache!
Here we go...
In two words: fatty acids. Fatty acids are nutrients found within olive oil which are brilliant for hair. They have anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-microbial properties, which sounds a bit complicated but it basically means that they help to keep hair healthy and well-nourished.
Your eyelashes are made up of hair follicles which are similar to all other kinds of hair, which means they also benefit from the nutrients contained in olive oil. The fatty acids will help keep bacteria away from your lashes as well as keep them moisturised, all of which contribute to a healthy follicle.
First, wash your eyes and lashes so that they’re clean.
Then, apply a small amount of olive oil to a clean mascara wand or a cotton swab and brush gently over your lashes. You can also put a small amount on the tips of your fingers and rub the oil gently into your lashes.
Leave the oil on for 5-10 minutes or, if you’re feeling invested, overnight, and make sure you then clean off thoroughly.
You can even try it on your eyebrows too!
No. Whilst all this stuff is great, it’s not directly boosting growth. It’s actually acting at the other end, helping to limit loss. When your lashes become dry or when bacteria spreads, they are more susceptible to damage and more likely to fall out. The nutrients in olive oil, by keeping your lashes clean and nourished, help to combat both of these problems, keeping your lash line thicker for longer. But there’s nothing in olive oil which is actually stimulating your hair follicles to grow faster.
Lucky you! We actually have a dedicated blog just on lash growth here.
But if you want a speedy response, one of the best solutions, if you’re looking to boost lash growth, is to use a Growth Serum. Growth Serums are specially formulated to stimulate the hair follicles on your lash line in order to promote growth. Use them regularly for 6-8 weeks and you’ll start to see a significant difference in the length of your lashes and the volume of your lash line. As a bonus, growth serums also have a nourishing effect on your lashes, so you’ll be limiting loss and damage at the same time. Pretty good right?!
Just make sure you find one that isn’t going to harm your skin. The one we make is dermatologically tested and free of parabens, sulphates and toxins. What’s more, it only takes six weeks of use before you find yourself waking up one day and BOOM, some gorgeously longer lashes are staring back at you.
If you haven’t tried a serum before and you’re a bit hesitant then don’t worry, we’re so confident you’ll love our Lash Growth Serum that we offer a 60-day money back guarantee if you don’t feel it’s worked for you.
So, there’s really no reason not to treat your lashes to a little natural boost 😊
