Do lash lifts make your eyelashes fall out?

Do lash lifts make your eyelashes fall out?

Lash lifts have become a major trend across the beauty industry, promising naturally gorgeous lashes without the extra effort of mascara or the higher cost that comes with a lash extension. But there’s also been some concern about the damage they can do to our lashes.

Are they really all they’re cracked up to be? We’ve done the research so you don’t have to.

What is a lash lift?

A lash lift is like a perm for your eyelashes. Here is how it works:

  • You go in for a 45-60 minute appointment
  • The technician starts by cleaning your eyes
  • A light eye patch is used to cover your bottom lashes
  • You close your eyes and a silicone rod is applied to your top lash line
  • The technician brushes the rod with glue and combs your lashes up so that they stick to the rod
  • A chemical solution is used to soften the lashes so that they mould into the shape of the rod
  • After ten minutes, a second solution is applied which stiffens the lashes in place so that they keep this new shape
  • Another ten minutes later, the solution is cleaned away, your lashes get a final brush and you’re ready to open those gorgeous eyes!

Are there risks?

A lash lift will make those lashes pop, but it’s not entirely without its problems.

Eye Irritation: chemicals are used to perm your lashes which can lead to a reaction amongst people with sensitive skin. If the chemicals get into your eyes they can also cause irritation and burning.

Lash Damage: the setting solution needs to be left on for different times depending on your lash type. It’s a delicate balance; if left on too long it can end up making your lashes more brittle which will make them more easily damaged.

Over or Under Curl: picking the right rod for your lashes is key. The wrong rod might curl your lashes too far back, or not lift them enough, leaving you pretty unhappy on that drive back home.

Reversing the Results: your lift needs time to settle in and that means a careful 48 hours after treatment. Avoid strenuous exercise (basically anything that makes you sweat) or getting your lashes wet (you’ll need to master having a shower with your head popping out the side!) otherwise you could be back for another tune up sooner than you’d hoped!

Is it worth it?

If you are looking for lashes that just get up and go without a load of maintenance, lash lifts aren’t the only answer. Lash Growth Serums, like this rather fabulous one of ours, are a great way of nurturing longer, fuller lashes without the risk of damage. We’ve made ours free of parabens, sulphates and toxins, so you get all of the nourishing goodness without any of the bad stuff.

And if you want to really enhance your natural sparkle, look no further than a perfect pair of falsies. Because they attach to your lash line, they'll give you more volume without changing your normal curve, for a totally authentic boost.

What’s not to like? 😊
